"Pray" is a four-letter word that you can (should) say anywhere.

A lot of bowing your head will help keep your thoughts humble

He who kneels before Jehovah can stand before any man!

"The proper way for a man to pray," Said Deacon Lemuel Keys. "The only proper attitude Is down upon your knees."

"No, I should say, the way to pray," Said Reverend Dr Wise, "Is standing straight with outstretched arms And rapturous up-turned eyes."

"It seems to me his hands should be Devoutly clasped in front, With both thumbs pointing toward the ground," Said Reverend Dr. Blunt.

"Last year I fell in Hopkin's well, Head first," said Cyrus Brown. "With both my heels a stickin' up, And my head a pointin' down."

"And I made a prayer right then and there, Best prayer I ever said, The prayin'est I ever prayed, Was standin' on my head."

A horrible thing happened to me today. A thief broke into my house. It happened shortly after I awoke this morning. I got up and began rushing about. I had a thousand things on my list and was already running behind. Quickly, I gulped down breakfast, took a shower and got ready for work. In my rush, I forgot to turn the security system on at my house. It was just about a half an hour later that the thief broke in.

Of course, he didn't make a sound. Just kind of snuck inside, not drawing any attention to himself. In fact, none of the neighbors ever saw him. But, I did. You see, I WAS HOME when the thief broke in. He naturally startled me, as I was unprepared for his visit. He, of course, didn't announce that he was coming and I certainly had not invited him over. And yet, I found myself face to face with danger and I felt so powerless. I also felt so very stupid, because this whole incident could have been avoided if I had just taken the time to turn the security system on. You better believe I'll be turning it on tomorrow morning! I thought I'd warn you about this guy, because he's still on the loose.

Chances are, he's in your area. Possibly even headed for your house. His name? Satan.

You see, this morning when I jumped up in my haste to get started on my busy day, I skipped my prayer time ~ opting to "pray later today." In other words, I DIDN'T TURN ON THE SECURITY SYSTEM. My defense wasn't on, my guard was dropped . . . and when the thief came into my home to attack me, I was unprepared to do battle. He tempted me and I felt powerless. Like I said, I also felt so very stupid, because I could have avoided the incident if I had just taken the time to pray.

My friend, the thief has come to "steal, kill and destroy." And, as a Witness of Jehovah, you are on his "hit list." He'll probably pop over to your house today. He may be lurking outside your door right now, just waiting to catch you off guard. Take time to pray in the morning. Ask Jehovah to protect you and empower you to do battle. In short, don't forget to turn your security system on.

Every time you pray, think of an old man who always prayed, "Jehovah, prop us up on our leaning side."    After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he prayed that prayer so fervently.    He answered, "Well, you see, it's like this... I got an old barn out back. It's been there a long time, it's withstood a lot of weather. It's gone through a lot of storms, and it's stood for many years. It's still standing, but one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit. So I went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it wouldn't fall."   Then I got to thinking 'bout that and how much I was like that old barn. I've been around a long time. I've withstood a lot of life's storms, a lot of bad weather in life, a lot of hard times, plus very ill health. And I'm still standing. I, too, find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I like to ask Jehovah to prop us up on our leaning side, 'cause I figure a lot of us get to leaning, at times."   Sometimes we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness, leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of things that we shouldn't. Therefore, we need to pray, 'Jehovah, prop us up on our leaning side,' so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify Jehovah."    "Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not L E A N upon your own understanding. In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths STRAIGHT." (Proverbs 3:5)

Prayer - Don't give Jehovah instructions - just report for duty!

I knelt to pray, but not for long I had too much to do! Must hurry off and get to work The bills are never few.   And so I said a hurried prayer And jumped off my knees. My Christian duty now was done My soul could be at ease.   All through the day I had not time to speak a word of cheer, No time to speak of Kingdom Truth; They'd laugh at me, I feared.   And when before Jehovah I came, I stood with downcast eyes. Within his hand he held a book, It was the Book of Life.   God looked into his Book and said, "Your name, I cannot find. I'd really planned to write it down, But I never found the time!"
